Year in PE

1. Identify your two favorite units with an explanation as to why you enjoyed those units. Provide at least 2 clear examples of support.

Volleyball and basketball were my two favorite units among the rest of the units for this year. I chose volleyball because I finally got to do a new unit that I have never done before! It is great to have some volleyball experience for the future just in case if I do volleyball again in PE. It was a challenge to learn something new than having it done before because you have to listen to the instructions very carefully and try to do your best to do some abilities like using your tips of your fingers to push the ball in the air for your team mate to smash, etc. It's also a fun sport although we haven't experienced some advance moves like smashing, proper serving, etc. The basic moves got me havingg fun in the volleyball unit. For basketball, it is one of my favorite sports and I have had lot's of experience. For example, I have done U-13 basketball and made some terrific passes, shots, lay-ups, etc in the tournament. Basketball get's my heart pumping very hard because you have to run down and up on the court, and you have to use all of your energy when the opponent has a counter attack. Since I am very tall for a thirteen year old, I took this advantage to use it very wisely for basketball. Now that I play basketball, lot's of people got to know me very well like Victor, William, etc.

2. Identify the unit that you found difficult or challenged you because you did not like it. Provide examples of what you did to find success in that unit. Feel free to use pictures to help out your explanations.

The units that I found the most challenging was climbing. I have experienced climbing before but it is really hard push your body upwards and across in the "overhang". I can go up and down on the wall but it's not that really fun for me. The equipment that we had to wear was very uncomfortable so I have to keep on loosing it sometimes but it's for my safety. You have to be really flexible and need a lot of strength to master climbing but I haven't been able to hold upside down for a long time. 3. Chose any 2 of the SLRs that you feel you excelled at during your year in PE class. Explain, providing clear examples where you where you actively used the 2 SLRs during various PE units. Use a picture or 2 of you in action using the SLRs of choice.

The two SLR's that I feel that I excelled during my year in PE class are communicating effectively, and learnin g enthusiastically . I have communicated effectively by telling other people what to do so that I can give them an oppertunity for them to make a difference. I want to give other people chances and make them feel good about themselves like in the basketball unit, since I am tall, I can reach the ball easily and then I can pass the ball to my teammates so they can have a jumpshot. In soccer, our team mates would call out to the person who they were passing to so that they can get their attention and receive the ball. This can prevent any errors in the match like conceeding goals by giving the other team the possession. For learning enthusiastically, I always have wanted to learn new skills, in sports so I would pay attention closely and try my best to follow it. For example, for floor hockey, I have forgotten the "traditional" way of blocking the shots but now that the teacher has demonstrated it properly, I was able to follow it although it wasn't very comfortable. I always come to class in a good mood to get ready for PE.

This picture shows me doing a shot on target. Learning enthusiastically can tie into this picture because I am trying to learn how to shoot after a long time of not playing soccer.

This picture shows me doing an "awkward" shot with my left foot. I don't know why but I added some "kung fu" soccer skills by adding my arm out. It makes me laugh so much!

Using Fitness Data for Knowledge

1. Look at each of the fitness tests. Using the scores please identify if you have improved, stayed the same, or dropped. Please answer in complete sentences and use the scores provided to support your answers.

Referring to the fitness tests that I have completed for the past trimesters, I have overall generally improved although I had some that lacked... For the pacer test, I had some the BEST improvement over the trimesters because I started out with 60 and then 80. I feel so proud of myself for pushing although my body felt very tired and painful for the pacer tests although to improve from 80 is going to be very hard. For the step tests, I started with a decent score which was 96 but I fell to 88. But now that I have my last opportunity, I would like to make this count by going to exercise regularly, etc because I had some injuries for the past few months like spraining an ankle, scraping my knee, etc. The twelve-minute test stayed the same. I started with 10.5 laps and then increased by 0.5 laps and then so far it stayed the same. The dips was the most challenging out of the fitness tests because you need to use your upper body strength. I scored 8 last year and then 10 in May so I had a 125% improvement from 8. For the curl-ups, the two scores were 80 because I have no trouble doing curl-ups and I could've improved more if the "speaker" didn't stop counting.

2. Using this information, please write a summary of your fitness level for the year. Identify strengths and weaknesses as well as areas that remained the same. Make sure you use the scores from your first question to create your summary. It should be a solid paragraph that is well written.

Over the past year, as I said before, improved on my fitness level this year. Some of my strengths were pacer-tests, 12 minute run , curl-ups ,etc. I feel that I have a good stamina and pace stay level for the 12 minute run. If I run too fast, I will get tired, thirsty, which will later slow me down. The weakness that I have is the step-test and the Tricep dips. I am impressed that the girls got a HUGE result but I only got 10... For the step-test, I still have one chance left to show if I have improved or not so I will try my best. Thanks to my daily activities which involves, anaerobic swimming, tennis, badminton, basketball, etc, I have become a fit person.

3. Please provide reasons why you think your fitness level is strong, good, improving, or weak. Relate your ideas to activities/units we have done in PE class that may have helped you improve or maintain your fitness. Maybe there is something that you do outside of school that helps you be a fit individual. If your fitness is low or weak explain why you think that may be. Are you not active outside of PE class. Do you play a lot of video games, have a lot of homework that does not all you to be active outside of school.

Doing sports regularly, and having a healthy diet plan is what makes my fitness level strong. For the units that I have done in PE class, swimming, and basketball units may have helped me improve my fitness. For the swimming unit, I would usually start swimming by myself for drills, exercises in the beginning of class while other people chatted in the swimming pool. I do swimming at KDE outside of school which made a huge impact to my fitness. Because of my height, etc, my teacher pushed me to lane 3 where the "strong and fastest" swimmers swam. She would usually give us lot's of drills like IM (all of the strokes), 500meters freestyle for warm up,etc. I don't play a lot of video games because my parents don't let me play games on a weekday so I can only play maximum 1 hour on a weekend and sometimes I have lot's of` homework in some days so I have to skip some sport classes. So overall because of swimming, PE, etc, it has improved my fitness level.
